Last.fm Partners with LyricFind to Bring Searchable Lyrics to its Free Music Service

More Than 800,000 Song Lyrics from Major and Independent Artists Added from The Beatles to Radiohead Now Available at Last.fm

TORONTO, ON & LONDON -- (October 8, 2008) - Last.fm today announced that it has partnered with LyricFind to bring over 800,000 lyrics from major and independent artists to the free music website. Users of Last.fm can now access lyrics from artists in every genre, including The Beatles, Radiohead, Amy Winehouse, and Kanye West, and search them by artist name, song title and phrase.

The deal brings lyrics to Last.fm for the first time, licensed from LyricFind’s database of content drawn from over 1,800 music publishers including EMI, Warner-Chappell, Sony/ATV and Universal/BMG. An excerpt from each available lyric will be featured on the relevant Last.fm track page (http://www.last.fm/music/Amy+Winehouse/_/Rehab), allowing music fans to click through to the full lyric page (http://www.last.fm/music/Amy+Winehouse/_/Rehab/+lyrics).

Lyrics search functionality has also been added to Last.fm, enabling users to find full lyrics from phrases, or by artist name or song title. Additionally, Last.fm users will be able to search for specific songs by lyrics, enabling them to input lines and phrases and find the exact track from Last.fm’s extensive catalogue of free-on-demand music.

Last.fm is launching its lyrics service today in the US and Canada, with more territories to be added in the near future. Last.fm is providing a number of compelling advertising and sponsorship opportunities on its lyrics pages, including the ability to skin the entire page.

Martin Stiksel, Last.fm co-founder, said: “Adding lyrics to Last.fm is another big step towards us becoming the most comprehensive, full-featured free music platform on the web. Nowhere else can you search through this many songs, find the lyric you want, and listen to the track free-on-demand at the same time. Lyrics are some of the most searched-for content on the web, and we’re hugely excited to be able to partner with LyricFind to offer such an in-demand service legally and for free.”

Darryl Ballantyne, LyricFind CEO, said: “Adding lyrics content provides a compelling feature for both discovery and interaction with music. Last.fm is already an amazing service, and we’re thrilled to be able to partner with them to add this core feature and complete their music offering.”
